 Britney Spears Is Honored by Kim Petras at the American Music Awards

The American Music Awards red carpet is often adorned with daring wardrobe choices. Since they are musicians and entertainers, they are well-versed in dramatic manner. Kim Petras paid homage to Britney Spears with her choice of clothing. She particularly remade the renowned denim dress that Spears famously wore to the AMAs in 2001.

Spears’s patchwork denim gown—complete with the matching jean bag and a crystal choker necklace—are one of the most famous red carpet looks from the AMAS, so it’s no wonder Petras felt inspired to revive the look. She did so by slipping into a strapless denim gown from Blumarine’s spring 2023 collection, which was very 2000s. It had a deliberately-faded wash, studded piping, and a big “B” belt buckle (for Blumarine—though, in this case, it could also stand for Britney). Like the Princess of Pop did, Petras also coordinated the look with a denim bag, though she swapped out the crystal choker necklace for a huge cross pendant one. While she didn’t have a date in a matching denim suit, Petra’s ensemble was the perfect nod to one of the greatest AMAs fashion moments of all time.
